October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.....Spread the word

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Pleas
e spread the word!!!

As some of you may know, but most don't, on May 6, 1998 I lost my sister, Jamie, to domestic violence. And although it has been over 10yrs it seems like just yesterday. It happened on the Wednesday before my first Mothers Day. The day was sunny, a little windy and Aaron was off that day. I can tell you everything we did that day up to the point my dad told me the news. From that point on my life was changed forever. Jamie was 32 yrs old and full of life. She loved animals, spoiled Grace rotten, and we had finally reached a point in our lives where we were not only sisters but frien
ds.

This is not something I normally share. But I am thinking that if you want something done you ask the Daisies & Dukes. What I am wanting to do is just get the word out there and maybe a few donations for the shelters in your area. I posted something on my myspace bulletin to help get the word out there. Most shelters are in need of personal hygiene items. A good thing is to donate the little shampoo bottles you get at hotels(say when you go to see a couple of Kentucky cuties or one black hatted cowboy)  Another thing you can donate is old cell phones. They take all your information off the phone and set it up to only be able to all 911. Each shelter is different so if you would like to help I recommend that you contact the shelter in your area. Thanks for taking your time to read this.

thanks mary for sharing you're story it saddens me to know you lost you're sister in such a horrible way..i do already what you are asking us to do...i try to be aware of people in need in my community and i especially donate to our local charities and food banks...and they dont really need more soup cans..they need hygene items...i have even donated finger nail polish lol...those are the things i think that make their hard times a little less...human compassion will save this world i believe :)

This is GREAT information, Mary. Thank you so much for opening your heart and sharing your story. I think we should try to get in touch with the Street Team Leader and see if they can put something on the Street Team page! Wouldn't hurt to ask!
